Distributing your game (4)

• What do you mean when you say that you'll 'distribute' my game? Well there are a number of things we do:
  
  1. We distribute a demo of your game to a large network (several hundred) partner game sites. The demo will contain links back to your game on Fizzy and will typically generate a lot of traffic. New sites are added to this list every day. We include sites like newgrounds.com and kongregate.com of course.
  2. We distribute your game via an email to specific subscribers who are looking for new games for their websites. They place games on their web sites and again the games contain links through to the full version on Fizzy.
  3. For new Pay to Play games, we issue a Press release to a network of Casual and other game based print and online publications.
  4. Email notifications are sent to all opted in members of our email list which is several hundred thousand strong and growing every day.
  
  
• What does Games for your Site mean? Fizzy has a group of users and guests who take our games and distribute them on their own websites. If you want your game to be distributed by us we actively notify these users of new games they can take.
  
  If you have a website and want to promote your game and generate additional revenue, you should consider taking the games we have available and placing them on your website. As a Fizzy member you get access to the demo versions of the games (both FREE and DOWNLOAD) and a unique code is appended to any links in the games.
  
  
• Can't I just distribute the game myself? Of course you can, but there are distinct advantages to letting us do it for you.
  
  1. We pay you more money if you let us distribute for you
  2. With our version mamagement system, if you update your game through Fizzy we update all the versions of the game we have distributed for you. This saves you a great deal of time and effort as you don't need to contact all these sites individually.
  
  
• Is it easy to have my game distributed? Yes. It's just a matter of ticking a check box that you want the game distributed, then you will need to incorporate the GLS when you begin the process of uploading a game.
  It does involve a little extra work but the rewards and extra revenue share are worth it.
  
  

Earning on the GDN (11)

• Is this an exclusive deal with Fizzy?
  You can distribute your game on any other website that you like. This is a non-exclusive distribution agreement, in other words you are free to distribute your game anywhere else in addition to Fizzy.
  
  However, why not let us distribute it for you. We already do it for our games, so all the hard work is done for you. Plus we'll pay you more if you do let us distribute your game.
  
  
• I think my game is better than others on the site. Can I negotiate a better deal?
  NO. Everyone gets the same deal in the Fizzy GDN. If your game is good, then you'll earn more money because this is a performance based system.
  
  If your game is really good, then consider making it a Pay to Play Game, you'll earn more money that way.
  
  
• How much will I earn? Well that depends first and foremost on how popular your game is. The more popular it is the more you will earn.
  
  Free to play games earn a percentage of advertising revenue. If you want to earn more then upload your game as a Pay to Play game. Not only do you get a higher percentage of advertising revenue you also get 70% revenue of every sale of your game.
  
  At the end of the day you have nothing to lose by uploading your game. And the rewards for making your game Pay to Play make up for the extra effort.

• What currency do you make payments in? All payments are calculated in US dollars.
• What are the current eCPMP rates?
  Free to Play games
  
  Free = 50c eCPMP
  Free Enhanced = $2.25 eCPMP + 25c eCPMP for any off site plays if you choose to distribute your game with Fizzy
  
  Pay to Play games
  
  $2.25 eCPMP + 70% revenue for every one of your games sold on Fizzy + 25c eCPMP for any off site plays if you choose to distribute your demo game with Fizzy.
  
  
• When do I get paid?
  Every month we pull a full report of all game developers and their games.
  
  Once the revenue earnt by your game(s) has reached the $50 threshold we pay you.
  
  The quickest and easiest way for that payment to go through is for you to provide us with Paypal details.
  
  
• Can I see how much my game is earning?
  Yes you can. One of the online reports we have for our developers is a current earnings table.
  
  You can also look at a month by month breakdown. Click on My Games in The Fizzy GDN and you'll see the report. Then click on a game (if you have more than one) and you'll see the performance of that game.
  
  
• What is eCPMP?
  eCPMP stands for
  
  effective Cost Per Milla(1000) Plays
  
  It is the amount we will pay you for every 1000 plays of your game.
  
  If you upload an un-enhanced Free to Play game and the eCPMP rate is 50c, you will earn 50c for every 1000 plays your game gets.
  
  Doesn't sound like much? We'd love it to be more too! It's actually a very generous share of the advertising revenue you game generates. If the rates go up, then we'll change the eCPMP rates to reflect that.
  
  What's more, popular games get played millions of times on Fizzy, so it can pretty soon add up!
  
  
• What is a Subscription Game?
  Fizzy.com offers a subscription service which users can subscribe to. There are a number of benefits, but most users join to get access to Subscription Games.
  
  Only Subscribers can get access to subscription games. Because they are paying for access to those games, the games must be:
  
  - Premium - subscription games should give a richer and longer game play experience than a typical free game
  
  - Not be available for free, anywhere on the internet (not just on Fizzy).
  
  - Integrated into Fizzy with the Fizzy Game Loading System
  
  Typically a Subscription Game will be n online version of a Download Game, essentially is a way of generating additional revenue from a download game.
  
  Revenue for Subscription Games is calculated based on the number of game plays your subscription gets against all the subscription game plays.
  
  
• What is a Download Game?
  A Download Game is a game which can be downloaded and installed on a users PC or Mac.
  
  If you want to make a Download Game, please download the Fizzy Download Game SDK which will give you all the tools you need to create a download game from a Flash game.
  
  There are a few things to consider:
  
  - Download games are sold on Fizzy, so this should be a Premium game that is not available anywhere else online for free (if you want to sell a few that is).
  
  - Download games can afford to be much bigger in file size, so go mad with rich graphics and high quality audio
  
  - The games are sold on a 'Try/Buy' basis and the demo is feature limited rather than time limited, so you need to create 'limited' demo version of the game that works online and the in the download game.
  
  
• What is Revenue Rank?
  The Revenue Rank is a measure of how your game compares to others on the site in terms of Revenue it is generating for you. It is comprised of two number. The first is your revenue rank for the period based on all games, whilst the number in brackets is the revenue rank when 3RD sense games are excluded from the list.
  
  e.g 400(350) where for hundred is the rank of the game when all games are included and 350 is the rank when 3RD sense games are excluded.
  
  The best possible rank is 1.
  
  

Free to Play games (12)

• How long does it take before I see my game on Fizzy? Once you have uploaded your game, you should see your game within 24 hours.
• What is an enhanced game? An enhanced game is a Free game on Fizzy that allows Fizzy users to submit scores, and thereby also earn points and awards.
  
  For your game to become enhanced you must integrate the GLS into your game.
  
  
• Why should I upload as an Free enhanced game rather than a Free game? First of all you will earn more money. Instead of 50c ecPMP you will get $2.25 eCPMP.
  That's a big step up in revenue earning potential!
  
  Uploading an enhanced game also gives you the ability to create a demo.
  
  Enhanced games are always more popular amongst Fizzy users because they can submit scores and earn points and awards.
  
  
• Is my game good enough to be enhanced? We think all games should be uploaded as enhanced. You have nothing to lose and everything to gain if you upload your game as enhanced.
• Do I get access to reporting for my Free to Play game? Yes you do.
  
  You can see your games ranking, revenue breakdown and the number of loads. You can even break the data down to a daily report.
  
  
• Do I get a public profile on Fizzy? All members of the GDN get a public profile. We want our users to know who is providing the great games on Fizzy. We want your games to get as high a profile as possible.
  
  We'd like you to put as much detail as possible in there.
  
  
• What is the version management system you promoted? This relates to enhanced games and all Pay to Play games.
  
  If you use our distribution platform and we circulate your game to many other websites. When you do an update to your game through the edit game function on Fizzy, then we will ensure all the versions playing on the other websites are updated automatically.
  
  This saves you having to contact all those websites one at a time and process the update manually.
  
  
• Is there a lot of work involved in uploading my game? We don't think so.
  
  You can just upload your game and a couple of images, a quick description and away you go.
  
  If you want to use our SDK and create an enhanced game, there is a bit of integration, but we've made it as simple as we can. All enhanced games on Fizzy must submit scores and use our 'skin' system, but if you can make a game, you'll find this really easy.
  
  If you are not sure about making your game enhanced, just upload it as is to start with and make it enhanced later.
  
  
• How do I upload a free game? Free Games are very quick and easy to upload on Fizzy. Follow the steps below and your game will be up on the site in no time and you can start generating revenue from your game.
  
  1. Choose Add a Game from the main menu.
  2. Select OPTION 1 'add a free to play' Game
  3. Enter your game name
  4. Upload the game files
  5. Make sure it plays ok
  5. Upload the game assets, write a short description and choose the genre(s)
  6. Submit the game
  
  All games are checked before they go live on Fizzy, this can take up to 48 hours.
  
  
• Can I create a demo for Free to Play games? Only if you have decided to make your free game enhanced, and incorporated the GLS.

• What is a Free to Play game? A Free to Play game is a game that is free for the user to play. Free to Play games do not charge in any way and therefore there is no revenue generated from them other than advertising based revenue.
  
  On Fizzy there are two types of Free to Play games - 'Free Games' and 'Free Enhanced Games'.
  
  Free Games are those which have no integration with Fizzy. As long at conforms to the Guidelines, then you can upload pretty much any Flash game.
  
  Free Enhanced Games are where the game has been integrated into Fizzy using the Fizzy Game Loading System (GLS). There are a number of advantages of using the GLS to enhance your game: - You'll earn more money with a higher eCPMP rate - you'll get more plays because the game offer score submission which is important for Fizzy members. - You can have your game distributed to other sites and earn even more money - You can manage new versions of your game - You get access to a whole host of other functions from the GLS
  
  

GDN Definitions (6)

• What is the Fizzy GLS? The Fizzy Game Loading System (GLS) is piece of Flash Software that we use to load our games on Fizzy.com and other sites. In order to make use of the Fizzy GLS you need to include an one ow two additioal AS files (depending on whether you game is AS2 or AS3) when you publish you game in Flash and you need to call a minimum of two of the available functions. The first initiates the GLS and the second is to submit a score, a minimum requirement for enhanced games.
  
  There are several additional functions which you can optionally call too, which allow you to pull in a players username, a players avatar image, save game data and more. Read the Readme file that is included when download the Fizzy GLS.
  
  
• What is the DRM? For Download Games we have created a Digital Rights Management system that is linked with Fizzy.com. All users must be members of Fizzy to buy a game. When they buy a game they are issued with an activation code. To activate a game, they must include their Fizzy user name, Fizzy password and their activation code. The game is then activated for use on the PC that they activated it on.

  To prepare your game to be a Download Game which is sold on Fizzy.com there are few things you need to do. It involves calling a few functions. There are then several optional functions which are available to you too. The SDK includes a list of the required and available functions with examples, and a debug wrapper for your game, so that you can test it as though it was a download game.
  
  
• What is a Subscription Game?

GDN Tips (2)

• How can I earn more from my games on Fizzy?
  1. Integrate the Fizzy GLS and turn your game into an Enhanced game.
  Your eCPMP rate goes from 50c to $2.25. You'll also get more plays, as the most popular games are those that have score submission.
  2. Seriously consider making your game a pay to play download game. You then earn 70% of all sale revenue from your game, (less transaction costs)
  3. Let us distribute your games for you. By letting Fizzy distribute your games you will earn an addition 0.25c eCPMP.
  4. If you do make a download game then we recommend you make a subscription version so that Fizzy VIP members can play the full version. Your earnings if you create a subscription game is also 70%.
  
  
• I already have a free game on Fizzy, can I enhance it?
  Yes you can. In fact we have a couple of very successful developers who have enhanced their games after they had been on Fizzy for some time.
  The most popular games on Fizzy are always the Enhanced games as they provide score submission.
  By Enhancing your game you will also lift your eCPMP from 0.80c to 2.00.
  
  

Getting Started (15)

• How much is it to join? The Game Developers Network (GDN) is free to join.
• Will you ever charge for the GDN? There are no plans in the forseeable future to charge for the GDN, but we can never say never. However we'll always give you lots of notice if the service changes dramatically.
• Who owns the rights to my game once I upload on the GDN? You always retain the rights to your game. For basic games all we need is the .swf.

• Are there any guidelines for uploaded content? 1. You must be the owner of the game(s) you are uploading, or must have specific permission from the owner to upload the game(s) onto Fizzy.
  
  2. Absolutely no pornographic, offensive, illegal, or hateful material. It is not allowed and never will be.
  
  3. No malicious content, no spyware, no adware and no scripts which are intended to do anything which they shouldn't.
  
  You can include ads in your games though and you can include links to your site or other sites, as long as they are clear and honest and they open in a new window.
  
  
• I'd like to upload a game but it isn't mine, can I do this? No you can't. You must be the owner of the game(s) you are uploading, or must have specific permission from the owner to upload the game(s) onto Fizzy. All assets in the game must also be original or you must have permission from the owner to use any assets you do not own such as sounds, pictures, phrases, animations, characters, company logos, etc.
• Can I put my company logo anywhere? There is provision for you to put your logo in your public profile.
  
  
• What is the Fizzy GDN? The Fizzy Game Developers Network is a service that we have developed for Flash Game Developers. There are a number of things the service offers, but they are all centred around generating revenue from Flash Games. Here is a quick overview of the key features, but you should more of the documentation for a deeper understanding of the services offered:
  
  - You can upload Free to Play Flash Games to Fizzy and we'll pay you based on the number of Plays your games gets.
  - You can enhance your game using the Fizzy Game Loading System(GLS) and generate even more revenue.
  - You can allow us to distribute your games to hundreds of other sites (we do all the legwork for you) and you'll earn even more money.
  - As long as you use the Fizzy GLS you can upload new versions of your game and your game will be automatically updated on all the sites that are hosting it.
  - You can create Pay to Play games either as Download Games or Subscription games, just use the Fizzy Download Game SDK and the Fizzy GLS to get your games ready, then upload them and we'll do the rest.
  - You get full online reporting showing you how much you are earning.

• Do I get a public profile on Fizzy? All members of the GDN get a public profile. We want our users to know who is providing the great games on Fizzy. We want your games to get as high a profile as possible.
  
  We'd like you to put as much detail as possible in there.
  
  
• What do I need to do to make my game a Pay to Play game? You need to follow our easy to use Pay to Play form. This involves entering: 1. your game's properties, (ie size and score threshold) 2. The demo properties 3. Download and integrate the SDK 4. Upload the game files 5. Upload the game assets 6. Enter the test variables Whilst the process is a little longer than uploading a Free to Play game the rewards to you are far greater. If you get stuck then you can contact us through the developer support, and we'll get back to you within 48 hours.
• Do I need to have a demo version? Yes you do on all Pay to Play games.
  
  The best way for you to make sales is to allow people to play a portion of the game for free. Otherwise known as try before you buy.
  
  The demo should be long enough to enable people to understand what they will get when they buy, but short enough so that the people who buy get value above and beyond what the demo offers.
  
  Most of our games have a demo that is limited by level rather than by time.
• What should I charge for my game? We will leave that up to you.
  
  You will be able to select from a number of predetermined levels, $10, $15 and $20. These dollar amounts are Australian dollars, but will be reflected in the equvilent US Dollars, British Pounds and Euro depending on where the user is located around the globe.
  
  Remember it always easier to price high and then reduce rather than price low and try to raise the price.
  
  
• Who takes care of the transactions? We do. We have a fully functioning multi-currency shop on Fizzy which has been proven to work.
  
  We have been selling our games through it since Fizzy came online over two years ago.
  
  Our aim with the GDN is to make it as easy as possible for you to promote and sell your games.

• How do I upload a free game? Free Games are very quick and easy to upload on Fizzy. Follow the steps below and your game will be up on the site in no time and you can start generating revenue from your game.
  
  1. Choose Add a Game from the main menu.
  2. Select OPTION 1 'add a free to play' Game
  3. Enter your game name
  4. Upload the game files
  5. Make sure it plays ok
  5. Upload the game assets, write a short description and choose the genre(s)

  All games are checked before they go live on Fizzy, this can take up to 48 hours.

• What is a Free to Play game? A Free to Play game is a game that is free for the user to play. Free to Play games do not charge in any way and therefore there is no revenue generated from them other than advertising based revenue.
  
  On Fizzy there are two types of Free to Play games - 'Free Games' and 'Free Enhanced Games'.
  
  Free Games are those which have no integration with Fizzy. As long at conforms to the Guidelines, then you can upload pretty much any Flash game.
  
  Free Enhanced Games are where the game has been integrated into Fizzy using the Fizzy Game Loading System (GLS). There are a number of advantages of using the GLS to enhance your game: - You'll earn more money with a higher eCPMP rate - you'll get more plays because the game offer score submission which is important for Fizzy members. - You can have your game distributed to other sites and earn even more money - You can manage new versions of your game - You get access to a whole host of other functions from the GLS

  Fizzy.com offers a subscription service which users can subscribe to. There are a number of benefits, but most users join to get access to Subscription Games.
  
  Only Subscribers can get access to subscription games. Because they are paying for access to those games, the games must be:
  
  - Premium - subscription games should give a richer and longer game play experience than a typical free game
  
  - Not be available for free, anywhere on the internet (not just on Fizzy).
  
  - Integrated into Fizzy with the Fizzy Game Loading System
  
  Typically a Subscription Game will be n online version of a Download Game, essentially is a way of generating additional revenue from a download game.
  
  Revenue for Subscription Games is calculated based on the number of game plays your subscription gets against all the subscription game plays.

  A Download Game is a game which can be downloaded and installed on a users PC or Mac.
  
  If you want to make a Download Game, please download the Fizzy Download Game SDK which will give you all the tools you need to create a download game from a Flash game.
  
  There are a few things to consider:
  
  - Download games are sold on Fizzy, so this should be a Premium game that is not available anywhere else online for free (if you want to sell a few that is).
  
  - Download games can afford to be much bigger in file size, so go mad with rich graphics and high quality audio
  
  - The games are sold on a 'Try/Buy' basis and the demo is feature limited rather than time limited, so you need to create 'limited' demo version of the game that works online and the in the download game.
